The **Rough Ryder Cotton Sampler** is a cool, traditional pocket knife. As the name might already suggest originally designed to check the quality of cotton. Buyers test the quality of the fibres by pulling it over the blade. You open this knife with two hands and a slipjoint prevents accidental closing. As such you can legally carry this pocket knife in many places in Europe.

## 440A steel

440A is a fine, popular type of steel. It is corrosion resistant and easy to sharpen. It won't retain its sharpness for a really long time, but this is compensated by the fact that 440A is quite tough and easy to sharpen. This means you only occasionally have to maintain it a little to make sure you always keep a sharp knife close.

## High Plains handle

The handle is made from High Plains bone This is cow bone that is enhanced with a texture and then coloured. This material has been used for over 100 years for knife handles and has become a *traditional* on its own. Bone, of course, is a natural material. As such small differences in terms of colour and shape, or any other small imperfections may occur. In this case the texture might remind you of the rolling hills in the landscape of the high plains in the United States.

Like Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Ryders these knives were named after, these knives are ready to be used. The prices are very appealing. However, this does mean that the finish might not always be perfect. Nothing major, and definitely in line with the prices. In case of natural materials such as wood, bone and horn it is possible to end up with small scratches around the pins. It is simply a part of the deal in this price range.
