Güde kitchen knives: top quality from Solingen for over 100 years

Güde has been making these high-quality German kitchen knives since 1910. That's more than a century! And still a lot of the work is done by hand. More than thirty steps of the production process require the eye of one of Güde's master knife makers. Choosing handwork over mass production was a conscious decision on Güde's part. The result is a high-quality kitchen knife that guarantees years of cooking enjoyment in any kitchen.

Reasons to choose Güde

Güde kitchen knives are produced in the German knife capital: Solingen. Meanwhile, the 4th generation is at the helm of the Güde factory. The blades of Güde kitchen knives are made of ice-hardened chromium-vanadium-molybdenum steel with a hardness of about 57-58 HRC. This may sound complicated, but these steel additives make the steel very corrosion resistant. This is a great type of steel for kitchen knives.

Blade and handle material of Güde kitchen knives

The blade runs throughout the entire handle. This is a rock-solid design that also ensures that the knives have a good weight to them. The scales are attached to the steel with rivets, giving the knives a traditional look. Between the handle and the blade is a sturdy metal bolster. This gives the knife its recognisable profile and also ensures the correct balance of the knife that characterises every Güde kitchen knife. The bolster, the pommel and full-tang design make Güde kitchen knives great for anyone who prefers a slightly heavier kitchen knife.

Güde series

Güde Alpha

Güde Alpha is Güde's most elaborate series. Both professional and amateur chefs can find their favourite knife in this range. You can recognize these knives by their black Hostaform handles. This is a rock-solid type of plastic. According to Güde, these knives are dishwasher safe. Still, we recommend washing these kitchen knives by hand to avoid any damage.

The kitchen knives from the Güde Alpha collection are made from ice-hardened chromium-vanadium-molybdenum according to German tradition. The steel is hardened up to a hardness of approximately 56 HRC.

Güde Alpha Olive

The handles of the Alpha Olive series are made from carefully selected olive wood from up to 500 years of age. Olive wood is very resistant to moisture. A great quality for kitchen knives! The grain has a graceful and distinct variation between light and dark brown. As a result, every knife has a unique and elegant look. The kitchen knives from the Güde Alpha Olive collection are made from ice-hardened chromium-vanadium-molybdenum according to German tradition. The steel is hardened up to a hardness of approximately 56 HRC.

Güde product types

At Güde, the focus is clearly on kitchen knives. They also produce some kitchen accessories and sharpening products, but these are mainly there for maintaining or safely storing Güde kitchen knives. Why focus on something else when you are so good at what you do?

Güde honing steels

A Güde honing steel is the perfect tool to make sure your kitchen knives become even sharper and stay that way. Before using your knife, move it alongside the honing steel and straighten out the burrs that emerged during previous use. You can choose a handle made from Hostaform or from olive wood. The same is true when it comes to the Alpha series and the Alpha Olive series.

History of Güde

Karl Güde founded the Güde factory in Solingen in 1910. From the very beginning, Karl Güde has been making hand-forged knives from a single piece of steel. He adds the handles himself and then sharpens the knives by hand. Güde kitchen knives have always been among the absolute best when it comes to kitchen knives from Solingen. Over the years they won several Red Dot Design Awards for the design of their kitchen knives and sharpening products. In 2021, the company celebrated their 111th anniversary. Güde has a rich history, but the future also looks Güde!
