The **Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2 Wharncliffe** is a handy pocket knife for everyday use. Instead of the classic blade shape, this blade is a Wharncliffe. This is a variant of the sheepsfoot, but with a straight edge. Perfect for opening boxes.

This is one of the largest Byrd knives. It's ideal for anyone who prefers a large pocket knife. The 10 cm 8Cr13MoV steel blade is easy to open with the comet-shaped hole. When opened, the blade is locked by a sturdy, reliable back lock. As an extra safety precaution this back lock has been enhanced with a so-called Boye-dent; a crescent-shaped cut-out that makes sure the knife won't close during heavy-duty use.

This knife weighs next to nothing thanks to the FRN handle. FRN is a strong, light-weight material that provides plenty of grip. The knife is enhanced with a reliable pocket clip that can be attached to the handle in four different ways. As such the user can decide to go with 'tip-up' or 'tip-down' carry and left and right-handed use. 

Spyderco introduced the Byrd collection as a more affordable alternative for the famous, but often more expensive Spyderco knives. Byrd knives are made in China. Of course, they adhere to Spyderco's strict quality demands and they are made from great materials.

My first Spyderco. Heeft even geduurd voor ik de stap heb durven nemen. Had wat te maken met de prijs en het gegeven dat ik het ontwerp niet zo aantrekkelijk vind. Niet met de kwaliteit want daar is nooit iets mis mee geweest. Het is er dus 1 van de Bird serie geworden met een gerekt oog in het lemmet in plaats van gewoon rond gat. Voor de rest kan ik niet veel verschil vinden met de goodkoopste reguliere Spyderco’s met 8cr13mov staal behalve dat die laatste tientjes duurder zijn. 

Wat dit mes betreft is er eigenlijk geen goede vergelijking mogelijk want ik kan geen wharncliff mes vinden van een vergelijkbare grootte.

Voor de duidelijkheid, dit is een heel groot mes. Wel heel licht en opvallend plat waardoor er weinig last van hebt in je achterzak. In ieder geval mijn favoriet als het op foodprep aankomt
