With this Shapton Pro Stone grain 8000 you can sharpen quickly and evenly. This ceramic Japanese sharpening stone has a grain size of 8000. A great stone when polishing a razor-sharp edge. Purchased this as a whim. I already own the 1000/1500/2000/5000 stones and these do a superb job of creating a razors edge on my knives. The 8000 grit stone gives the final edge a highly polished look, whether it improves the sharpness is up for debate. Did I really need this stone, probably not, but this is nothing like other 8000 grit standard whetstones, it is far superior and more like a 10000/12000 regular grit stone in my opinion.
