Are your knives in need of sharpening?

The **DMT Hardcoat Duosharp sharpening stone** is a large diamond-coated sharpening stone, ideal for sharpening large knives. This special Hardcoat version is enhanced with an extra-hard coating to make sure this stone is suited to sharpen knives made from very hard types of steel and ceramic knives. Both sides of the sharpening stone are enhanced with a different grain size (fine and extra-fine) which can be distinguished by the green and red dot. This is comparable to J500 and J1500.

## Information about the grain sizes of DMT sharpening stones

The grain size of a diamond-coated stone and a whetstone cannot easily be compared. This is because the construction and materials used are substantially different. With a whetstone, the sharpening grains are incorporated into the stone. These grains also come loose from the stone during use and become a sort of sharpening paste. With a diamond-coated stone, the diamonds are fixed in the surface of the stone. 

## How to use the DMT Hardcoat Bench Stones

You can use the DMT sharpening stones with or without water. The advantage of sharpening with water is that the stone is lubricated and the sharpening residue is removed. Never use oil, always water. Furthermore, it is good to know that a new diamond sharpening stone removes quite a lot of material. Only after sharpening 5 to 10 knives does the stone have its final, intended effect.
