The knife is perfect for my day to day carry. The notch joint locks a lot tighter than expected that I'm not 100% convinced would be alright if i was stopped by a policeman (which i doubt would happen anyway). I showed it to a policeman friend of mine who agreed. Because of this I'm thinking of filing down the notch so it locks less tightly. It's so tight the jimping feels unnecessary!

Comes sharp. Easy to open with one hand, and unlikely to close unexpectedly on fingers. A bit pricey though.

The best knife is the one you have with you when you need it. I bought this Spyderco because I wanted a knife I could keep in my pocket all the time, without running foul of the UK's fussy knife laws. The legal problem lies in the locking action: to be UK street legal the knife must be non-locking, and most quality knives lock, What makes this knife so useful is that, although it meets that non-locking requirement, firm spring pressure keeps it open when it should be open. The design of the blade and grip means that, even if this close-resistance should let you known, the sharp part of the blade shouldn't close on your fingers (but you have to hold it correctly, and it will still pinch.) At the same time, the knife can be opened one-handed using the thumb hole. The knife feels solid and robust, while still being light enough to carry without bother. There is a handy belt/pocket clip that can be removed or rearranged to suit. Out of the box it's sharp enough to shave with, and the blade profile looks as if it will make sharpening manageable when the time comes, although I have not had to so far. The downside? The price. It's very expensive for a three-inch pocket knife. Opinel make a range of such knives at less than £12 each. But if you want a UK-legal knife with one-handed opening, from a reputable knife-maker, there aren't many alternatives.
