This is, as expected a monstrous knife it is heavy, sturdy and in my example just about shaving sharp..After a bit of stropping it was hair popping with ease. I have had a few Beckers over the years and have always been impressed with the build quality...providing....you know what you are buying..This is a knife to be used not looked at, if you are going to study it's fit and finish in infinite detail, then you probably aren't the right owner for the bk2. If you are the sort of person who is going to take it to the woods, cut tree branches, baton firewood (if you must) throw it about, open cans, cut inappropriate materials and generally not be too bothered about it...Then you are a Becker owner... Only problem with it is....Everything I mention above, apart I guess from can opening, can be better accomplished with an axe of similar weight....Hmmm..now there's food for thought... And I'm not a fan of the sheath...in fact it's pretty awful..I shied away from the plastic/nylon/imitation kydex/whatever one as it's supposed to blunt the knife but, the bk22 floppy cordura alternative that I bought is....Kinda tacky...So you may want to factor in some custom kydex.. All in all an extremely robust no frills utilitarian knife to be used often and probably just kept in the truck..

Great knife. Probably the best overall survival knife for this price. Good size and weight. The handle is tough. I use hockey tape on mine to make the surface less slippery. The sheath is well made, but the nylon could be thicker.

Wow, where to start, I would recommend you watch the video link that's under the KA BAR Becker 2/ Becker 22 description on knivesandtools.co.uk product page first. The review by Dutch Bushcraft Knives, is very entertaining and nicely demonstrates the near indestructible nature of this “absolute beast" of a blade as well as all of its pros and cons. I wanted this as a hard wearing, dependable tool for camping / survival etc... which I think it achieves amicably. Mine is the Becker 22 which is the same blade as the Becker 2, but comes with a modified polyester sheath, following criticism of the original kydex one blunting the blade every time it was removed and returned, an issue which I am unsure whether has been addressed with the current generation of kydex sheath (KA BAR Becker 2). The drawbacks to this knife is that it is not great at intricate work or fine crafting/cutting, mainly as the blade is 1/4 of an inch thick on its spine. If you’re after a true bushcraft knife then a thinner, more precise offering may prove a better alternative. However, for me, this is not an issue as the sheer weight and bulk grants a fantastic amount of strength and heft for chopping. I wont be using this to baton and split wood, I have a hatchet for that - again though it is nice to know that the Becker 2 can handle this without issue should the need arise. Mine arrived very sharp and it came quickly so a big thank you to Knives and Tools for arranging this. The Polyester sheath appears to be much better quality than the original kydex version judging by online video reviews, although without the two pop fasteners the knife would come out as the retention of the sheath is not great and I will likely upgrade this sheath (which is made in Taiwan) to a leather one some point in the future. The knife itself is made in America and the quality of the steel is good, as I have not had the pleasure of using it extensively I cannot comment on how quickly the coating will rub off, but again when it starts to look very patchy I may decide to remove the entire coating and force my own patina on the blade (mustard I hear works well and there are plenty of modding tips available online if this interests you too). I wanted this to be the knife solution for the majority of outdoor activities and it covers these areas well, anything that it can't handle I have a back-up option but I do not anticipate that this will be necessary. I would also suggest looking into replacing the grivory stock scales, while comfortable they seem slippy when wet, despite the nice ergonomics of the shape of the handle itself. Overall I highly recommend this blade, just be sure that its criteria meet yours, the price is spot on for the value that this provides.
