The **Hogue Deka** is a slender and lightweight pocket knife. It has a very high fidget factor thanks to Hogue's Able-lock. You won't be able to stop yourself opening and closing the blade. But of course, this knife is meant to be used. As you would expect from a Hogue, the handle is fine: excellent grip, and perfectly executed.




The Hogue Deka 24379 Tumble Magnacut, Black Polymer, Clippoint, pocket knife is a nice EDC pocket knife in the colour black. With its blade length of 8,3 cm, this knife is ideal for easy carrying. When closed, it's only 11 cm long, and it weighs 75 g.



Opening the Hogue Deka 24379 Tumble Magnacut, Black Polymer, Clippoint, pocket knife with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb stud. Once opened, the sturdy Crossbar Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won't accidentally close during use. A cool feature of this lock is that it can be easily used by both left-handed and right-handed users.

The name 'Crossbar Lock' is a generic term for locks of this type. The foundation of this mechanism was the Axis Lock as developed by Benchmade. Today, several manufacturers happily make use of the same mechanism, though sometimes under different names.



## Blade made of CPM Magnacut steel
The blade of this Hogue Deka is made of CPM Magnacut steel, possibly the most revolutionary steel of the 21st century. MagnaCut offers an unrivalled balance between sharpness retention, toughness, corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening. Since the release of CPM MagnaCut in 2021, it has become one of the most popular steels in the world of knives. The MagnaCut blade of this pocket knife measures 8,3 cm in length.

## History of CPM Magnacut 
This type of steel was developed by Dr Larrin Thomas, a metallurgist who has dedicated his career to improving knife steel. He is the son of Devin Thomas, a famous damascus smith who supplied Chris Reeve Knives with steel for many years. Dr Larrin Thomas works in the automotive industry but is passionate about knife steels. He thought it should be possible to do better, and together with Crucible Industries came up with CPM MagnaCut. The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of this blade. The stonewash process involves the blade being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.



## Polymer handle
The handle of this knife is made of polymer. This is a family of strong plastics that includes several better-known names. It is generally hard-wearing, water-resistant and feels great in hand. Often, polymer handles are equipped with metal liners for additional strength.

Redelijk compacte EDC voor lichte gebruikers. De bouw kwaliteit is gewoon praktisch en het mes weegt ook bijna niets. Voor kleinere lichtere taken heel af en toe is het verder prima. Het is echter niet wat ik zoek en voor mij was het polymer handvat te glad en de afwerking van de open en sluit knoppen te scherp.

De grind van het mes is ongelijk naar de punt toe en de factory edge erg slordig. Dit was het geval op mijn mes en op het mes van mijn vader. Handvat voelt wat kwetsbaar aan.
