Everything about the Japanese Higo no Kami pocket knife emanates tradition. In the past everyone in Japan, including school children, used to carry a knife like this. The Higo pocket knife was used to sharpen pencils and for many other tasks. 


The blade is easy to open with the 'chikiri' (the lever at the end of the blade). As is common for this type of knife, it doesn't have a lock and the blade completely disappears inside the handle when closed. 


## Carbon steel


Carbon steel is steel with a high concentration of carbon. It is very shock-resistant and also very tough. Some maintenance is required to keep the blade sharp, though. Fortunately, it's a very easy type of steel to sharpen. However, this steel is not corrosion-resistant.

Joli couteau. Tres simple et pratique pour ouvrir les lettres.

Na een snelle levering, zoals gewoonlijk, kwam de higonokami scherp uit de doos. Na enkele halen over de strop werd deze echter scherend scherp, zoals het hoort. 
Voldoet zeker aan de verwachtingen.

Quite a basic design but very well made. Blade is excellent and is held in position well. I have used this for many purposes since it arrived and I am very pleased
