The **Fällkniven A1x** is a top-quality outdoor knife, perfect for many different users. Bushcraft and survival enthusiasts, hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts have known for years that Fällkniven produces amazing knives This A1x is a full-tang version of their Fällkniven A1.



The Fällkniven A1x is also called the 'Expedition Knife'. So adventurous. Because of its royal blade size we also like to call it the 'bushcraft sword'. You use it for many different tasks, but it excels during the more demanding tasks. Because of its 7 mm thick blade it is also quite heavy. As such you can also easily split wood.



The Fällkniven X collection is the first of this Swedish brand with a *full-tang* construction. This means that the tang of the blade runs throughout the entire handle. This is stronger dan other construction methods. The scales are mounted to both sides of the tang. These are still made from Thermorun. This is an elastic plastic that absorbs blows and offers a lot of grip. These scales even offer more grip than the handle of the normal A1.



The blade is made from laminated CoS steel.
This means that the CoS core is placed in between two layers of softer, more stainless steel. As such the blade can handle a lot more. You can easily sharpen the CoS core and it will retain its sharpness for a long time.



## Fällkniven’s convex grind


Like all fixed Fällkniven knives this knife was enhanced with a convex grind. This has important advantages. A convex edge, for instance, can be sharpened razor-sharp, is relatively stong and offers less cutting resistance. The 'shoulders' that are usually attached to a regular v-edge in the transition from the edge to the side of the blade are missing. As such using a convex edge is absolutely amazing. The Fällkniven A1x comes with a Zytel sheath. Fällkniven upgraded this as well by adding an additional retention lever. With it you can secure the knife in the sheath. As such it won't rattle, and you won't lose it. A nice upgrade!

Qua vorm is dit toch wel het mooiste mes ooit (eveneens de S1 en F1). Persoonlijk vind ik de full-tang constructie prachtig en uitermate degelijk. Het is een zware jongen, maar toch is hij mooi uitgebalanceerd (midden). Het handvat is niet alleen dikker, door de brede rug, maar ook meer gevormd dan bij de andere modellen waardoor een goede grip ontstaat. Daarnaast kan het handvat eenvoudig gedemonteerd worden, wel een fijn idee dat je hem goed kan schoonmaken (bereiden van voedsel, vleesverwerking e.d.)
Voor bushcrafting of backpacking is het een te groot en intimiderend mes, mijns inziens is het vooral handig voor het splijten of hakken van hout. Dit idee heb ik ook bij de S1, maar die is dan net weer te klein voor  voornoemde taken. 
De afwerking is verder bijna perfect, zelfs het gat voor koordbevestiging is gesouvereind! De krop is alleen wel wat aan de scherpe kant, deze had fallkniven wat beter kunnen afronden.

De bijkomende schede is uniek. Hoewel ik mij afvraag hoe duurzaam het is, kydex voelt namelijk veel robuuster aan. Een mooie eigenschap is dat er een mechanisme in zit die het mes vastzet in de schede (kan bij ontvangst wel een druppeltje olie gebruiken). De krop haakt achter een kleine uitsparing waardoor het onmogelijk is het mes te verliezen.

Zoek je een echt mooi mes met een convex lemmet en is gewicht geen probleem, overweeg dit model dan zeker!







Arbeitspferd. Massives Messer für Wald und Outdooraktivitäten. Macht einen sehr soliden Eindruck auf mich, Langzeittest läuft.

Es gibt nur wenig Ähnliches und noch weniger Vergleichbares. Eine brutal dicke Klinge, die trotz ihrer Geometrie noch schneidet. Und das sogar unglaublich gut. Ein Allrounder mit Schwerpunkt für grobe Arbeiten, wie Batoning und Chopping. Kein Schneidteufel und gerade noch tauglich für feinere Schnitzarbeiten, glänzt es beim Feathersticking mit passabler Leistung. Der Convex-Schliff zeigt sich von seiner besten Seite. Allerdings neigt die wuchtige Klinge mehr zum Spalten, als zum Trennen und das ist so gewollt. Der Lam Cos Stahl bietet hohe Stehzeit, ist aber in der Spitze mit Vorsicht zu genießen, da sehr hart. Das ist bei allen Laminatstählen so. Das extrem hohe Gewicht der Klinge in Verbindung mit dem Fulltang reagiert auch empfindlich auf Schwingungen durch extrem harte Schläge am Spine, wie z.B. einem Stein. Dafür sind Laminate nicht ausgelegt. Sie werden in der inneren Laminatschicht rissig und brechen ab dem Zeitpunkt, wo die äußeren Schichten die Vibration von aufkommenen Lasten nicht mehr abfangen können. Ihre Stärke liegt in der hohen Schnitthaltigkeit und der im Verhältnis höheren Zähigkeit, im Bereich der Holzbearbeitung. Der Griff glänzt mit perfekter Ergonomie und bietet sehr guten, fast aggressiven Grip. Ich finde ihn aber Handverträglicher als beim Cold Steel Trailmaster.
Die Scheide finde ich um Welten besser, als die alten Versionen und das Messer sitzt mit der neuen Verriegelung zuverlässig in selbiger. Mein Fazit: perfekte Verarbeitung trifft auf brachiale Eleganz. Ich finde es besser im Preis/Leistungsverhältnis, als die Pro-Version und es spielt seine Stärke als Axtersatz mit Schnitzfähigkeit sehr gut aus. Eine One-Tool-Option mit Survival-Ambitionen, ist es jeden Cent wert. Ich habe mich für das A1X entschieden und bin mir seiner Stärken und Schwächen bewusst. Wer ein Brecheisen will, bekommt dieses günstig im Baumarkt. Wer aber ein tolles Spalt und Hackmesser sucht, den Convex-Schliff mag und Laminatstahl in seiner Funktion versteht, der macht hier nichts verkehrt.

Super massives Messer, sehr gut verarbeitet. Kann ich nur empfehlen.
