With the 580 Barrage, Benchmade has made a pocket knife with adult dimensions. You have an excellent grip and with its 125 grams it also carries some weight. The moment you want to unfold the knife, it appears to have a hefty cooperating assisted opening. The spring does most of the work for you. That works perfect. Do keep in mind that you have to overcome some resilience when closing the blade. This blade is made of the often used steel type 154CM.  
  


The handle is made of black Valox. This material can be compared to FRN. Valox is resistant to moisture, heat and many chemicals. Just like the handle, the spacer at the back of the pocket knife is provided with a line pattern. A secondary blocking which secures the blade in both unfolded and folded condition is applied at the spot where the pattern seems to become finer.

Love this knife. A little bit large for me. So take that into consideration of your hand size. The hande would be nice in Micarta. Or even in G10. It does feel and sound like plastic, but , basically it is a plastic handle.Super fast (snappy) action. Overall a superb great knife, fully recommend this to any knife collector.

Le Benchmade barrage dispose d'une très belle lame, très tranchante.
Le système d'ouverture et de blocage de lame est très performant.
Bref, un beau couteau que j'apprécie pour ses dimensions et sa prise en main.
Rien à redire aussi sur les conditions de livraison.

Das Barrage 580 habe ich mir zugelegt, weil ich - neben dem Mini-Griptilian - ein Messer mit längerer und stabilerer Klinge haben wollte. Mit 9 cm Klingenlänge und 124 gr Gewicht ist Barrage schon deutlich schwerer und fühlt sich solider an. Etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig war der federunterstützte Öffnungsmechanismus: Nach kurzem Anschieben mit der Daumenkuppe springt die Klinge auf. Zum Schließen muss man sie gegen deutlichen Widerstand (Feder wird gespannt) zudrücken. Nach einiger Zeit lernte ich diese Mechanik allerdings auch einhändig zu nutzen und schätze sie mittlerweile sehr. 
Das Axis-Lock arbeitet wie gewohnt leichtgängig und zuverlässig, mit dem Clip kann ich das Messer in der Hosentasche der Jeans gut unterbringen.
Last not least: Die Klinge hat serienmäßig schon eine sehr gute Schärfe, bei 61 HRC werde ich bei Nachschleifen auf meinen Wassersteinen bestimmt noch etwas mehr rauskitzeln.
Mein Fazit: Wer ein absolut funktionelles Taschenmesser sucht, wird bei Benchmade Top-Qualität finden.
