The blade of the TOPS Knives Muley Saw MSAW-01, 154CM Tumble Finished, Tan Black G10, bone saw, Leo Espinoza design is made of 154CM steel, an American type of steel that is very corrosion resistant and retains its sharpness well. Moreover, for a stainless steel, it is quite tough. Many knife steels were actually developed for other applications, and this is the case for 154CM too. It was originally designed for use in jet engines. It was knife maker Bob Loveless who made 154CM popular for use as a knife steel in the 1970s.



The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of this blade. The stonewash process involves the blade being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.
