The **Case Muskrat** is a traditional pocket knife. As the name might already suggest this pocket knife was originally designed for a very specific tasks: skinning muskrats. Of course this is no longer a daily task for most, but history makes it a fun *conversation piece*. A characterizing feature of this pocket knife that it has two blades, that are exactly the same. You might think this is relatively pointless, but the opposite is true. Originally this pocket knife was designed keeping in mind that you don't always have time to sharpen your blade. If the first blade is blunt you can simply use the second, razor-sharp blade. You'll never have to work with a blunt knife.




You open the Case Knives with two hands. To make this easier, there's a nail nick which gives you a little extra grip using your fingernail. This pocket knife is not equipped with a full lock, only with a slipjoint mechanism. This provides some resistance to prevent the knife from snapping shut during normal use. However, if you press on the spine of the blade, the knife will shut.



## Damascus blade
The blade of this Case Knives Muskrat is made from damascus steel. It's beautiful and incredibly stylish, but also designed for use. Damascus is created by welding different types of steel together and folding them multiple times, all at very high temperatures and with exceptional craftsmanship. This steel combines ancient techniques with modern skill. The manufacturer doesn’t provide much information about the type of steel, so we can't say with certainty how corrosion-resistant this particular steel is. Therefore, it’s advisable to keep the blade clean and regularly apply a few drops of oil. It wouldn't hurt to apply that piece of advice to your other knives too.



## Handle made from bone

The handle of this Case Knives Muskrat is made from bone. Typically, cow bone is used for this purpose. Manufacturers often give this material an interesting colour and texture. It is a material that has been used for knife handles and other tools for a very long time.

The Muskrat is named after the animal originally skinned with it. A Muskrat pocket knife has two blades that are usually identical to each other.
