Safely landed: the Knafs Lander 4 Fixed Blade

After a successful Kickstarter launch, Knafs introduces the Lander 4 Fixed Blade, the first fixed-blade knife in the Lander series. Founder Ben Petersen had one goal in mind: to design a compact and portable knife for EDC (everyday carry).

The creation of the Lander 4

The Lander 4 began with a question Ben asked himself: "What’s missing in the Lander series?'' The answer was a fixed-blade knife that is versatile, simple and user-friendly. After extensive experimentation with cardboard prototypes and 3D prints, the design team found the perfect balance between an ergonomic handle and a 6.6 cm blade.

Design

Designing a fixed-blade knife offered more freedom than a folding knife. Without a pivot system, Ben could experiment with the ratio between handle and blade, resulting in a comfortable 3.5-finger grip. The addition of a brass booster bead to the lanyard allows for a 4-finger grip, providing extra control.
The brass bead was inspired by the Rocketdyne F-1 rocket engine that launched the Saturn V into space. It’s a tribute to the engineers and technologies that brought humanity to the Moon – a fitting link to the spirit of the Lander series.

Simple design, easy to customize

The Lander 4 is available in two options: Moondust Micarta with 14C28N steel and a drop-point blade for versatile cutting, or the Black Sheep with S35VN steel and a sheepsfoot blade for precision tasks.
The Micarta handle offers a secure grip and is attached with two screws. As is typical of Knafs, the handle scales are easy to swap. Knafs provides a file to create custom scales, allowing users to modify, mix or completely redesign them. Whether you choose a unique colour or a brand-new pattern, the possibilities are endless.

A cleverly designed kydex sheath

The knife comes with a kydex sheath. The eyelets are spaced ¾ inch (19.05 mm) apart, making it compatible with most mounting options, such as Tek-Loks and Ulticlips. The sheath includes a standard thermoplastic belt loop, but the eyelets in the kydex allow for creative carry options – in your pocket, on your belt or even as a neck knife.
