Benchmade Griptilian vs Mini Griptilian

The Benchmade Griptilian, designed by Mel Pardue, has been an ever fixed mark in the pocket knife world for dozens of years. In addition to the 'regular' Griptilian there is also the Mini Griptilian. But why choose the smaller Griptilian over the large one and vice versa? We made an overview of the differences.

First a couple similarities. The material used for the handle and the steel: identical. And the lock, of course: both are enhanced with Benchmade's characterizing Axis lock. As such both models are great for both left and right-handed use. Both models are also available with both the thumb stud and the thumb hole.

The differences

Of course this means that there aren't many aspects left that can be different. So we end up discussing length and weight. A difference of 13 mm for the blade and 30 grams in terms of weight. Doesn't seem like a lot, but in reality this length does make a difference.

You will namely really notice the 'normal' Griptilian in your pocket. A weight of 110 grams is not a lot. It is simply a little bigger.

You notice the Mini Griptilian a lot less. It weighs only 80 grams and is, when closed, only 9.9 cm long.

Conclusion

So the size is different. Obvious. But which do you choose? It depends on a couple of things. The large Griptilian, for instance, is better when you use the knife for a longer period of time. The larger handle is simply a little more ergonomic during heavy-duty tasks.

Is the purpose regular EDC use? Are you looking for a knife that looks less 'frightening'? A knife that won't take up too much room in your pocket? Go with the Mini Griptilian.
